<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Lesson 16 in Primary Manual 4 is about Alma & Amulek in prison and the purpose of the lesson is to help the children develop faith in <a href="http://www.mormon.org/beliefs/jesus-christ">Jesus Christ</a> so they will stand for the right. You can see the entire lesson <a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/primary-4/lesson-16?lang=eng" target="_blank">HERE</a>. During the lesson you teach about the faith that Alma & Amulek had even when they were being persecuted and how they defended their faith through it all. This handout has ways the kids can remember to stand for the right in their own lives including: obey the commandments, avoid swearing, be kind, pray, tell the truth, follow Christ, never cheat, study the scriptures and choose the right. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
In Primary Manual 4 lesson 15 is about Alma and Amulek's mission to Ammonihah, and the purpose of the lesson is to teach the kids to the importance of faithfully obeying Heavenly Father’s commandments. You can see the entire lesson <a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/primary-4/lesson-15?lang=eng" target="_blank">HERE</a>. I strayed slightly from the lesson for this handout because I <i>love</i> this quote, it is from a talk given at BYU Women's conference in 2011. It sums up exactly why we should do the simple things of the gospel and live it faithfully- because we will see extraordinary results in our lives. </div>

One of my first activities for the Activity Day girls was making these fun Remember to Pray pillowcases. I wanted to create something to help them remember to say their prayers everyday, since it is a requirement in their Faith In God books and I settled on a pillowcase. <br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
I used <a href="http://www.madeeveryday.com/2008/07/tutorial-conkerr-cancer-pillowcases.html" target="_blank">THIS</a> tutorial for measurements and instructions, super simple. I purchased my fabric at JoAnn with coupons, of course, and decided on a cheaper solid color for the larger cut and then a cute print for the edge. This kept the cost down. The girls LOVED this basic sewing project. I had some other sisters from the ward come to help the girls sew them, we had about 2-3 girls per machine which was fine since the project was super simple. I cut all the fabric before the activity which helped with time.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To make the iron on "remember to pray" I used my <a href="http://www.shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=713448&u=999011&m=51766&urllink=&afftrack=">Cricut Explore™</a> which is awesome and Cricut glitter iron on vinyl. <a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/primary-4/lesson-13?lang=eng" target="_blank">Lesson 13</a> in the Primary 4 Manual is about The People of King Limhi and the People of Alma. The purpose of the lesson is to teach the kids that humility and faith in Jesus Christ can give us strength to face adversity. With this purpose in mind I created this "shield of faith" handout. I used a scripture from the lesson- Mosiah 23:22 "Whosoever putteth his trust in him the same shall be lifted up at the last day."</div>

<a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/primary-4/lesson-10?lang=eng" target="_blank">Lesson 10 </a>in the Primary Manual 4, <i>King Benjamin Teaches His People</i> is all about teaching the kids about the covenant they made at baptism. Reminding them of the things they can do to more fully live the gospel and keep their baptismal covenant. The lesson talks about King Benjamin's speech to his people from the tower, I made this handout to look like a tower with the things that we can do to obey the commandments. </div>

For <a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/primary-4/lesson-9?lang=eng" target="_blank">lesson 9 in the primary manual 4</a> it discusses prayer, and Enos' example of mighty prayer to the Lord. I chose to create a double sided handout for this lesson. The front shows a quote from President Boyd K. Packard that the lesson uses in one of the Enrichment Activities. I loved this quote and I actually couldn't stop reading <a href="https://www.lds.org/general-conference/1979/10/prayers-and-answers?lang=eng" target="_blank">the talk it came from</a> which was given in 1979, I highly recommend giving it a quick read while preparing this lesson. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My idea for the backside of the handout was to give the kids each a sharpie marker at the end of class and fill in the answers to the three questions in their own handwriting. I laminate each handout so thats why I would need to use Sharpies, if you just print them out on paper you wouldn't need to. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have I told you how much I love my Activity Days calling? I love it, I think these girls are so fun. Ages 8-11 has got to be great for parents because they are still young enough to be kids and appreciate things but old enough to play games, do crafts and in general enjoy life with you. For our valentines day activity we followed the lesson <i>Mormon Activity Days</i> blog thats all about <a href="http://mormonactivitydays.com/2015/11/06/learning-the-love-languages/" target="_blank">learning about your love language</a>. </div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
I was surprised that none of the girls had heard about love languages before, and it was fun to teach them. It was interesting to see what their love languages were. We made sure they took their quiz with results home to their parents. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For our activity we made "love buckets" and wrote notes to someone they loved. The girls had fun decorating their buckets with gems and valentine ribbon. Whenever there is a hot glue gun involved I use and have them show me where they want things glued, I'm still not willing to let them use it on their own!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lesson 8 in primary manual 4 is all about the dispute between Jacob and Sherem. The first activity the lesson has the teacher do is ask the kids to try to break a piece of string and then try to break a rope. Clearly the rope is unbreakable. We then discuss throughout the lesson how to make our testimonies unbreakable like Jacob's. You can see the entire lesson <a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/primary-4/lesson-8?lang=eng" target="_blank">HERE</a>. </div>
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Instead of copying a scripture or quote this time I just typed up the lines about the rope activity from the manual for the handout. "Our testimonies start like single pieces of string but can be strengthened until they become unbreakable like strong rope made of hundreds of strings together." I like to have handouts that remind them directly what we did in class during the lesson. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The girls in our Activity Days group loved this project/lesson. I love when we can combine a fun project with a meaningful lesson, it seems to be the best balance with this age of girls. I found a great outline on doing an activity on the science of happiness <a href="http://mormonactivitydays.com/2015/05/17/science-of-happiness/" target="_blank">HERE</a>. The website I just listed <a href="http://mormonactivitydays.com/" target="_blank">Mormon Activity Days</a> is a fantastic website with tons of great ideas on, if you are an activity day leader you must check it out. I basically followed the outline found there for the lesson. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I printed out the 3 categories of happiness and taped them up for the girls to see during our discussion. We talked about the different categories and what brings the most happiness to our lives- meaning and engagement more than just pleasure. (We met at my house this time because our activity had been cancelled due to snow so we did a makeup day at my house) I printed out the below quote from the lesson into a cute printable for their binders. Scroll to the bottom of the post to download the quote. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I purchased wood boxes for $1.99 each at Hobby Lobby and the girls had a great time painting and decorating them. We had them paint the boxes as soon as they arrived, we then let the dry while we did the lesson and then they decorated them. </div>

The lesson outline has the girls create a list of things that bring them happiness, then they cut the list into strips and put them into their happiness boxes. </div>

I am currently serving in the Primary in our ward, teaching the Valiant 9 class as well as an <a href="https://www.lds.org/callings/primary/leader-resources/activity-days?lang=eng" target="_blank">Activity Day</a> leader. I love Activity Days and coming up with fun crafts, lessons and projects for the girls to do that go along with the <a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/faith-in-god-for-girls?lang=eng" target="_blank">Faith in God for Girls</a> manual. I wanted a way for the girls to visually see how they were progressing with the faith in God program so I created these fun binders. The girls were <i>so</i> excited to get these which made me happy since it was no quick ordeal to create them! </div>

, I chose the size so it wouldn't be overwhelming for the girls to carry around, and the small size makes them cuter. :) If you decide to make these you'll need an <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GHXF1LW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00GHXF1LW&linkCode=as2&tag=handmintheh07-20&linkId=J5YGVLNCB6L2JPBU" rel="nofollow">Adjustable 3-Hole Punch</a><img alt="" border="0" src="http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=handmintheh07-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00GHXF1LW" height="1" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /> to hole punch everything that goes in the binder. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also created a page that goes in the front of the binder to track their progress in the Faith in God activities. It says "A Royal Daughter of God" and has an image of an empty crown which gets filled up with gem stickers as they complete things. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-XDkixQT0s0SGlvFXrTPCgLwEQDlZlh4INzTxDBXLyGo6AAPk8A74DfLwC6zJzzxsOXTGdBsCnmHmU2gTVDK8THDPTwQoscSqr-K6lP-Y66-fAHoXig5fiqYhOVmCa1d6b5_jefYDE-A/s1600/Divider-Pages-Activity-Day-Binders.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Activity Day Progress Binders" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-XDkixQT0s0SGlvFXrTPCgLwEQDlZlh4INzTxDBXLyGo6AAPk8A74DfLwC6zJzzxsOXTGdBsCnmHmU2gTVDK8THDPTwQoscSqr-K6lP-Y66-fAHoXig5fiqYhOVmCa1d6b5_jefYDE-A/s1600/Divider-Pages-Activity-Day-Binders.png" title="Activity Day Progress Binders" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The idea behind the binder and having tabs for each category is that I will make handouts every time we meet and they will put those handouts in the related category section of their binder. I like the idea of the girls having a way to visually remember the activities they have been to and being reminded of what they learned. You can see my first example <a href="http://www.raisingthemodernkid.com/2016/01/happiness-boxes-for-activity-days.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg51vJ0sjUHVHekiJ1UnMICOZ0cNheU632mY3wTKAkWaI7TGKqakDMLayOWo3d9zF6GOAsCVhSXN_9pXXbIzJxpgkps56gJG_yrF99XE__cKIV8TS2q4ZJegnxfO9plx8k0K9V7mJZdH0A/s1600/Developing-Talents-Tab.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Activity Day Progress Binders" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg51vJ0sjUHVHekiJ1UnMICOZ0cNheU632mY3wTKAkWaI7TGKqakDMLayOWo3d9zF6GOAsCVhSXN_9pXXbIzJxpgkps56gJG_yrF99XE__cKIV8TS2q4ZJegnxfO9plx8k0K9V7mJZdH0A/s1600/Developing-Talents-Tab.png" title="Activity Day Progress Binders" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also plan on incorporating journaling in our activity day meetings with time at the end to journal what they learned and they can keep those thoughts in the journal tab. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibgNnonnoMQB5o4cguBDQbpxtpucW07FZMgnbs6hjkCao4xGG57EONw0MFvEjWxog1qQv6RLT_61yaXlreZZ4ofNnYec2qEYMmkg2PM0q4WwWpKLec4C0ZDKdBXUy6zt6zdcwdsAJ_6m8/s1600/Binder-Tabs.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Activity Day Progress Binders" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibgNnonnoMQB5o4cguBDQbpxtpucW07FZMgnbs6hjkCao4xGG57EONw0MFvEjWxog1qQv6RLT_61yaXlreZZ4ofNnYec2qEYMmkg2PM0q4WwWpKLec4C0ZDKdBXUy6zt6zdcwdsAJ_6m8/s1600/Binder-Tabs.png" title="Activity Day Progress Binders" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Royal Daughter of God progress tracking page has the girls earning gem stickers as they complete activities. In the manual it suggests to pass off 2 activities from each category each year (from ages 8-11). The girls may participate in more than just two acitivites in a category in a year but I only allow them to officially "pass of" and receive a sticker for the first two they complete in the year. I purchased all the stickers at Walmart. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Here is a key for the stickers on the crown:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Star at the center- Entering Activity Days</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Pink Gems (8)- Learning & Living the Gospel</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Gold Gems (8)- Serving Others</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Silver Gems (8) Developing Talents</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Blue Gems (8) Preparing for YW</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Stars in the middle- Completing each section</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Pearls- 13th articles of faith</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I also have tiny little gems that they can pick each time they come and add it anywhere on the crown for attendance. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few notes on printing- </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The cover is 2 to a page and the tabs are only 1 to a page, because of the tab part I couldn't fit 2 to a page however, after trimming I could laminate 2 tabs at the same time in the regular letter size laminating pouches. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I use a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BBMEQDS/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00BBMEQDS&linkCode=as2&tag=handmintheh07-20&linkId=VUFYI75XLQYHN67N" rel="nofollow">Brother Printer</a><img alt="" border="0" src="http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=handmintheh07-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00BBMEQDS" height="1" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /> that prints great color prints and I love that I can print up to 11x17 pages! After watching <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sEQHBbIW7E4" target="_blank">THIS</a> youtube video I purchased the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DRHFVAW/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00DRHFVAW&linkCode=as2&tag=handmintheh07-20&linkId=SIDH3BDDIGTPCULO" rel="nofollow">Refill Kit for Brother Ink</a><img alt="" border="0" src="http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=handmintheh07-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B00DRHFVAW" height="1" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" />. I've been printing <i>a ton </i>and haven't even made a dent in the ink bottles which has made printing so much cheaper! Basically using my printer totally eliminates trips to the office supply store. I also use a <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000GP5L3U/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B000GP5L3U&linkCode=as2&tag=handmintheh07-20&linkId=MQBH44XU2RYMBR2Q" rel="nofollow">Westcott Paper Trimmer</a><img alt="" border="0" src="http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=handmintheh07-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B000GP5L3U" height="1" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /> for all paper cutting and I <i>love</i> it, I use it all the time! I laminated every tab & the crown page, I use the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0010JEJPC/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0010JEJPC&linkCode=as2&tag=handmintheh07-20&linkId=GJXCM2BTO55VFZ6Z" rel="nofollow">Scotch Thermal Laminator</a><img alt="" border="0" src="http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=handmintheh07-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B0010JEJPC" height="1" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /> with <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007VBXB48/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B007VBXB48&linkCode=as2&tag=handmintheh07-20&linkId=UNLDKF6PKWXPTIVH" rel="nofollow">Laminating Pouches</a><img alt="" border="0" src="http://ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=handmintheh07-20&l=as2&o=1&a=B007VBXB48" height="1" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /> and I it works great. For this project I literally did it all at home, I love being able to print, cut and laminate at home. </div>

In Primary Manual 4 <a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/primary-7-new-testament/lesson-45-pauls-journey-to-rome?lang=eng" target="_blank">lesson 45</a> is about Paul's journey to Rome. I chose to create a double sided handout that has Article of Faith #7 on one side and a list of gifts of the spirit on the other side. The lesson helps the kids learn about gifts that are given through the Holy Ghost. </div>

The <a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/primary-4/lesson-1?lang=eng" target="_blank">first lesson</a> in primary manual 4 is about the Book of Mormon and how it is a gift from our Heavenly Father. Since its the first lesson of the year I found it a great time to challenge the kids to read the entire Book of Mormon this year. I printed out <a href="http://confessionsofaslackermom.com/lds-fun/book-of-mormon-reading-calendars-free-printable/" target="_blank">THESE</a> monthly reading schedules and gave the kids the January reading chart. We talked about what rewards they would receive for reading- a monthly treat and quarterly parties at my house.<br />

You can download the handout of Moroni 10:4 <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6vj_-XYflqkMmVvcEFmMUN5LWM/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">HERE</a>, I also just copy and pasted an image of the book of mormon and did a double sided handout. I did not include the image handout because the file was being really strange. If I get a chance to correct the file I'll upload it. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Primary manual 4 lesson 5, discuss how Lehi and his family are led through the wilderness. The liahona is a pivotal part of the lesson and I chose to highlight it in the handout for the week. I found this illustration of the liahona on pinterest and then added a passage from Alma 37:44- "The words of Christ will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss." </div>

<a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/primary-4/lesson-2?lang=eng" target="_blank">Lesson 2</a> in Primary Manual 4 is about Nephi following his father, the prophet. This lessons goal is to help the kids gain a testimony of the modern day prophet. I did a double sided handout with a photo of President Monson on one side and the 6th article of faith on the other.<br />

The lesson has a prompt to use quotes from a recent conference talk to have the kids read and discuss how they can follow the prophet. These are the quotes I used.<br />

In Primary Manual 4: The Book of Mormon <a href="https://www.lds.org/manual/primary-4/lesson-4?lang=eng">lesson 4</a> is on the Tree of Life in Lehi's dream recorded in 1st Nephi. I wanted a handout for the kids to remember the tree and of life and what it represented. I love this scripture where Nephi states that the tree is precious above all, reminding us all that the love of the Lord and the Love of Christ is meant to be tasted and shared.<br />

Have you heard this poem? Something you want, something you need, something to wear and something to read? I came across it and in an effort to be a little less extravagant for Christmas decided to employ this technique for the kids gifts. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<a name='more'></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I created these free printable tags that you can download and print off <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6vj_-XYflqkcVpMSzZkNnZhdms/view?usp=sharing" target="_blank">HERE</a>. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I was deciding what to purchase for each of the categories I knew I wanted some really great children's books. I noticed that one of our favorite books <i><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Built-Car-Chris-Van-Dusen/dp/0142408255/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452747898&sr=8-1&keywords=if+i+built+a+car" target="_blank">If I Built A Car</a> </i>was the winner of the E.B.White Read Aloud award and so I looked up the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_E.B._White_Read_Aloud_Award" target="_blank">list of other winners</a> and chose off of that list. If you haven't read <i><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Day-Crayons-Quit-Drew-Daywalt/dp/0399255370/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1452747876&sr=8-1&keywords=the+day+the+crayons+quit" target="_blank">The Day The Crayons Quit</a></i> you really should, it's so cute!</div>
